Information concerning leaders camp.....

Dear WVU Marching Band Leader,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the leadership position you will be holding this season with the “Pride of West Virginia!” We hope you are genuinely excited about the opportunity you will have to make a direct impact on the outcome of the 2007 WVU Band!!

We think this year is going to be thrilling in many ways: our home game schedule - featuring the Thursday night ESPN re-match with Louisville, the anticipation of a top-5 ranked football team, several other nationally-televised football games, the projected road trips to Marshall and Syracuse, great tunes to play, and many other great performance opportunities here in Morgantown and around the region!

As you should already know, we will be holding the annual “LEADERS CAMP” on Saturday, August 11th (the day before band camp begins). Below is a very general outline of the schedule for the day (an exact schedule will be announced upon your arrival):

  • 10:00 a.m. - Registration - REPORT TO THE CREATIVE ARTS CENTER
  • 10:30 a.m. - Morning Session - DON’T BE LATE!
  • 12:00 p.m. - Lunch (on your own)
  • 1:30 p.m. - Afternoon sessions
  • 6:30 p.m. - Dinner (provided)
  • 7:30 p.m. - Closing session TBA - *Uniform distribution (make sure you have your $40 rental fee)

THIS LEADERS’ CAMP IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! There are several important and vital issues that need to be addressed which will directly affect the entire marching season. Together, we need to set the goals for the season, as well as decide the various ways in which we plan to implement our goals. Please note that we can not have a successful season without your input and direct involvement in this band.

The camp will be designed to show you HOW to teach and instruct your ranks and/or sections more effectively as well as to discuss HOW you can be a truly effective leader (especially when it comes to dealing with people). Please bring your instruments with you - we will probably read through the halftime music. If you are renting a school instrument, don’t forget the $20 rental fee!

As you know, we here in the Band Office take this camp very seriously. Therefore, attendance IS mandatory. If you need to reach us for any reason pertaining to the Leaders’ Camp (or any other matters), please feel free to contact us at (304) 293-4841 (x3157) or e-mail us at .

We want to let you know how very excited we are about this upcoming season and about the opportunity we have to work with you! See you August 11th!

Sincerely,
Jay Drury, Marching Band Director
