2019 Color Guard Audition Specifics

Audition Specifics for Prospective Members, New and Returning

DATES: Auditions for the 2018 edition of "The Pride of West Virginia" Color Guard, a section of the WVU Marching Band, will take place at a mini-camp on Saturday, April 27th, 2019. All prospective members, both new and veteran, must audition.

* Please complete this ONLINE FORM to register for the Color Guard Audition.

TIMES: The hours for Saturday, April 27th are 9:00 a.m. until approximately 5:00 p.m.

LOCATIONS: Register at 9 a.m. in the Lobby of the Creative Arts Center on Saturday. Audition sites will be located in and around the "CAC" and WVU Coliseum; these will be announced as-needed. Those that are unsure of where audition sites are located will be helped.

IMPORTANT: Students are responsible for their own lodging, transportation and meals during the April auditions.

AUDITION PROCEDURE: During the audition, participants will be learning the basic fundamentals of the WVU program, as well as body fundamentals, equipment and warm-up basics, as well as an audition routine and the beginning of pregame. The focus of the morning session will be on training with final member auditions taking place in the afternoon. The audition process for membership focuses mainly on attitude, work ethic, technique, “stage” presence, and retention of material.

ATTIRE: Veterans and those who have not previously been a member of the WVU Color Guard, please wear a solid white t-shirt or tank with black or blue shorts or jazz pants for audition attire. Those auditioning for rank leader or assistant rank leader wear your SPIN t-shirts with black or blue shorts or jazz pants. Everyone should wear jazz shoes if you have them (preferred) or good quality athletic shoes. Hair should be secured out of the face in a bun, or slick back if you have short hair. Gloves are optional, but highly recommended, especially for the weapon clinic (details to be discussed at auditions).

EXPERIENCE: Some color guard experience is preferred, but there will be opportunities for individuals with less experience to still be part of the ensemble! Don't let inexperience prevent you from auditioning!

CONFLICTS: All those interested in becoming a member of the WVU Color Guard are required to attend the April 27th audition; however, if you cannot make it, we still want you to audition! Simply contact our Color Guard Coordinator, Ashley Seum (WVUColorguard@gmail.com); to discuss an alternative audition plan, especially if you are involved in the winter guard activity or are unable to attend the April 14th audition date. We hope to see you there!

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Have fun! You are making a great decision and we are delighted to have you try-out.
